HelpSmith includes a built-in web server that allows you to test your Web Help system on the local computer.

Using a full-featured web server eliminates the security restrictions of modern web browsers associated with running a web page from the local computer directly that could make a Web Help system work incorrectly.

The local web server runs automatically when you generate a Web Help system.

Below is a description of the parameters in this section.

Listen Port

The port number used by the local web server. In case the specified port is busy with another service or application, HelpSmith will try to find another port to run the web server.

Start Server

Allows you to start the web server manually.

Stop Server

Allows you to stop the web server.
