Linking to external websites in Web Help

In our web help system, we have links to external websites. While some of the linked websites are displayed properly, the other websites are not displayed.

For example, if you click on such a hyperlink, you will get an error like "Refused to connect" (Chrome) or "Can't Open This Page" (Firefox).

Q: How can we solve this problem?

For example, if you click on such a hyperlink, you will get an error like "Refused to connect" (Chrome) or "Can't Open This Page" (Firefox).

A Web Help system displays the content of a linked website in an iframe element.

However, some websites may not permit to be displayed on another website within a frame. In this case, it is only possible to open such a link in a new tab.

How to Display a Link in a New Tab

As a solution, you can display links to external websites in a new tab:

  1. In the topic editor, double-click on the hyperlink to edit its properties.
  2. In the Edit Hyperlink dialog, set the Target Frame parameter as New Window.
  3. Click OK.

Showing a hyperlink in a new tab

After you re-compile your Web Help system (by clicking Project tab|Compile), the link to an external website should work properly. However, the webpage will be displayed in a new tab in the web browser.
