What is a .CHW file?
When I create a .CHM help file with HelpSmith, I also see an additional file with the .CHW extension in the output folder.
Can you please explain the purpose of this .CHW file? Should I distribute it with my .CHM help file, or it is a temporary file that I can delete?

A .CHW file is a compiled help index file. It is automatically created by the HTML Help viewer program when you open your .CHM help file and access the Index tab.
Thus, this is a temporary file and there is no need to distribute it along with your .CHM help file.
If necessary, you can simply delete the .CHW file.
