How to paste plain text without styles
When I copy some text from a web page in the browser, and then paste it (by pressing Ctrl+V) into a topic, it seems like HelpSmith inserts the text using the font style which is the same as on the webpage.
Q: Is it possible to paste text without a style?
Inserting text without formatting
HelpSmith allows you insert text from the Clipboard retaining the original styles, or use special options.
If you need to insert only text without original styles, you should use the Keep Text Only option as shown on the screenshot below. Or, you can use the Shift+Ctrl+V shortcut key.
In this case, the word processor will use not the original style, but the style use by the current paragraph (for example, the Normal style) or a specific text style of the text on which the text cursor is located.
Extra options to insert text from the Clipboard
As you can see on the screenshot above, the Paste menu also includes additional options that might be helpful in certain situations.
Text as Markdown
Allows you to paste plain text that uses Markdown syntax, so the inserted text will have headings, hyperlinks, images, etc.
Text as HTML
Allows you to paste HTML code that will be interpreted and inserted as a document with styles, images, links, and other elements.
PS: Of course, while the given options let you quickly paste a piece of Markdown or HTML text from the clipboard, if you need to import multiple files, you should actually use the Import functionality as it provides more advanced options.
Since I only need to insert a piece of text into an existing text in a topic, the Keep Text Only option (or Ctrl+Shift+V) works just fine for me, thank you!
I faced a similar issue and I'm glad to have found an easy solution. What I really appreciate about HelpSmith is that it handles clipboard operations correctly.
For example, if I copy and paste text from one section to another, I can be sure that the formatting (normal, headings, highlight, etc.) will be preserved.
The new styles feature is also great, as I no longer need to maintain separate styles for text and paragraphs - I can simply use the normal style.
